Spring Into a Facial

In today's fast paced world we all know how hard it can be to find some time for ourselves. But investing time on reinvigorating your body, relaxing your mind, and rejuvenating your spirit always yields a good return. That's why I'm excited to have partnered with the Big Cypress Spa in Memphis where a nature inspired decor meets a top notch professional staff to make every spa visit feel like a rustic yet refined retreat.

An iconic element in the city's skyline, the Memphis Pyramid was revitalized in 2015 and now houses a large retail space, multiple restaurants, and lodging. Nestled in a cozy section of the building and accessible only by a private elevator, the Big Cypress Spa is located within the Pyramid. I recently had the opportunity to take some time for myself and go to the spa. While I had previously gone to Big Cypress on a few occasions over the last two years for massages (which were amazing!), I had never ventured into getting one of their spa facials so I was looking forward to the experience. As soon as I stepped off the elevator, just like all of my previous visits, I was greeted with a warm welcome and offered some wine or a mimosa while checking in. Never one to refuse a pour of a good red wine, I gratefully accepted and began taking in the wonderful atmosphere. I am not a country or outdoorsy gal by any means, but I could not stop adoring the way the spa's decor perfectly captures a sense of being in nature that is calming and soothing. After slipping into a gown and slippers, I was ready to start my session with a consultation that tailors the therapy to your needs.

I had signed up for the Blues City facial which included an awesome consultation with Diana, one of the licensed medical aestheticians, who customized the facial based on my skin type (which is dry, sensitive, and prone to acne).  After a rundown of the products (explained with the most beautiful, cutest Hungarian accent! A touch of Europe in my spa experience!), we went ahead to the facial rooms. I had fully expected her to dive right into my face, but was pleasantly surprised that each session first starts with an essential oils foot soak. I had no idea that is was part of my facial and I am not complaining! It felt amazing- feet soaking, wine in hand, with a wonderful aroma, pleasant music, and calming decor- this was a complete head-to-toe relaxation. After relaxing and finishing my wine, I made my way over to the heated bed (a major plus for me as I'm always cold!) ready for the facial to begin.

My facial started with cleansing and exfoliating leading into extraction, which consisted of a deeper cleanse. I definitely needed a deep cleanse; my last facial was over 3 months ago! The deep cleanse included a gentle micro-peel. Since I have sensitive skin, Diana tested the peel on a small portion of my face first to make sure I did not get a reaction. During this time, she provided shoulder, arm and hand massages.  The next part of my facial included a clay based face mask, and then she ended the facial with moisturizing my face to keep from getting dry and a bit of an oil rub on my back. The entire process took about 60 minutes, after which I felt so relaxed and refreshed! My first spa facial at Big Cypress was an amazing experience and I can't wait until I can go again.

Big Cypress Spa has various other services as well. I've blogged here about facials, but I could easily have written about their awesome massages (Best I've ever had. Seriously). I've also had mani-pedis done with beautiful results. Of course wine/mimosas are always served.
